Bloody Cars

How much time/money do you spend on your car, think about it!!  First of all you have to buy the thing which will cost you either a mass amount up front or you take out a loan and pay that back every month.  You then have to tax the thing every year, you have to pay for it to be MOT'd (road worthy certificate) if that fails then you will have to pay for it to be repaired, I then need to take out an insurance policy to cover it against fire and theft (minimum) and if it is expensive I would take out a full insurance package that would cost me nothing short of an arm and a leg (please note this is before I even get behind the wheel).  Once I start to think about driving it I need to ensure my tyres are in good shape (these are about £70 each if they decide to go) ensure I have enough oil and water and I can start driving.......... oh no wait I need fuel which will cost me on average around £7 an hour to keep my engine running but then if I decide I need to park it somewhere then it is nearly impossible to find somewhere that won’t charge me at least £1 an hour just to use their space. After using the thing for a few months guess what the car is going to start moaning at me telling me that it needs a service which is nothing short of a £150 if nothing else goes wrong.  What I have listed so far is only if everything goes well and lets be honest with cars they rarely do. There is the normal ware and tear of tyres and exhausts which isn’t cheap to say the least but it is expected that you will pay for this. At some point no doubt you car will break down and if you are sensible you would have some kind of break down cover which will cost you about £100 a year, if however you don’t then they will send some half wit out to come and tow the car for you at a cost that can only be covered by remortgaging your house (maybe I have exaggerated slightly) and then it will need repairing which will cost you about £50 per hour just for the labour of course there is an extra cost for parts.

Cosmetics - I can’t just make sure the thing works well, after spending money I don’t even have to buy my car oh no I have to make sure it looks good too.  The slightest chip or scratch will cause most car owners to have a mild heart attack as they know this has no devalued their car by thousands of pounds and will cost hundreds to fix.  Oh and I can’t possibly let it get dirty either, every week it is expected that I take it to the car wash and give it a bath otherwise people will look at me as they would a parent that doesn’t bath their kids and so not am I only spending my money on this thing but I am giving up my Sunday afternoon to spend quality time with it.

Knackers yard - it won’t be long before your car starts playing up, I would guess about 4 years before you are spending more money on it than you thought.  It is around this time when you have to decide if you want to continue spending more and more money on it to the point where you are putting your dog on Ebay to cover the costs of a new engine (don’t do this by the way, I found that animal rights protesters start hanging around your house causing trouble and possibly even damaging your car which just starts a vicious circle) or you have to sell it for far less than what you paid for it leaving you most likely still paying off the loan you took out to buy the car in the first place.

Why - after all this I have to ask myself why I even own a car in the first place what does it really do for me, when you look at it really my car only gets me to work and back.  Then I ask myself what have a got a job for …............ Oh! I know its to pay for my bas**rtd car.  When I read all the evidence above I feel like going outside and setting it on fire and then all my problems would be gone but then I find out there are laws stopping me from doing so (great now cars have rights too).  When I look at it owning a car costs you less than bringing up children so maybe I would be better off having another kid, it would cost me less and be no where near as much hassle (yeah right), however after reading this blog and noting that I wish to set fire to my own car then child services would probably end up taking my kids away.

Oh I have just though if I have more kids I would need a bigger car …..........DAM IT
